A plain-language explanation of what today's AI actually is — and what it isn't.
Read through the lesson, mark it complete when the concept is clear, then move to the next lesson in the sequence or jump back to the module map.
How a prompt becomes an answer
Today's AI is a very good pattern-completer. It has read an enormous amount of text and learned what words tend to follow other words — so when you give it a starting point (your prompt), it predicts a sensible continuation (the answer).
That's it. There's no little person inside, no database it "looks things up" in. It's predicting, one piece at a time, based on patterns.
Because AI works by prediction, two things are true at once:
You don't need to understand the math. You need one mental model: you give it a good starting point, it gives you a strong first draft. Everything else in this journey is about getting better starting points and knowing when to trust the output.
Next up: writing your first real prompt.
