How Launch Studio checks an agent's work against your rubric — and how to fix it fast when the grade isn't a pass.

A working agent isn't the same as a good one. Grading is the honesty check: it runs the agent, then scores the result against the rubric you set up back in Step 1 — the plain-language checklist built from your own words in the interview.
This matters because "it ran without an error" and "it did the job the way you wanted" are two very different bars. Grading holds it to the second one.
Each rubric is a short list of concrete criteria — things like "flags overdue invoices without threatening language" or "summarizes every unread thread, not just the newest one." Every criterion gets a pass or fail, with a plain-English explanation of why.
You don't need to know how the grading works under the hood. You need to read the verdict: which criteria passed, which didn't, and why — same as reading feedback on a first draft.
A verdict for an agent run looks like a short report card:
If something fails, you don't start over. You iterate: adjust the rubric or the prompt directly (the same wording you saw in Step 2), then re-run it. Most agents need one or two rounds of this before every criterion passes consistently — that's normal, not a sign something's broken.
Think of it like giving feedback to a new hire's first draft: you don't fire them, you tell them what to fix and have them try again.
You're done iterating once the agent consistently passes every criterion that actually matters to you — not necessarily every criterion the interview generated. If a rubric line turns out to be the wrong bar, you can edit the rubric itself, not just the agent.
